Corei Shy, born in East London, the eldest of 8 kids, started writing and performing music at the age of 6, co-opting his cousins into joining imaginary boybands and taking control of his turntables to entertain the family. As a quiet and introverted kid performing wasn’t his forte and after a particularly severe bout of stage fright Corei turned to production as a more comfortable release for his talents. Over time Corei's confidence rose and he worked his way up from floor staff to find himself in the DJ booth with a residency at London’s Tottenham Court Road nightspot, Club 55.

Corei’s reputation developed further after winning a remix competition hosted by DJ Target on 1Xtra. This led to him producing a remix for Grammy award winner Bridget Kelly and further remix work for girl group Stooshe.

He was soon producing tracks for Don Major and DJ NType’s Whytelabel imprint. It was around this time that his relationship with record producer, writer and pioneer DaVinChe started to really develop. Soon a deal was on the table which saw Corei signing to DaVinChe’s nascent QAPLA label.

This video for Corei Shy’s 2nd Single “James Brown” might make you a little uncomfortable, after which you’ll probably watch it again and again.

Maybe it was the police encounter at 3am walking home, where he found himself being kicked and hit with a baton on the floor after a night of playing the PlayStation at a friends house as a teenager.

Maybe it was the time he was arrested and charged by the police officers he called, after being brutally attacked by his mother's ex fiancé whilst trying to protect her from her lover turned attacker.

Either way, Corei Shy has a myriad of personal experiences that have inspired his latest single and video.

After hearing the story from this warm, socially awkward yet endearing Producer / DJ, you’ll understand why he decided to explore the relationship between the police and the black British community in the music video for his uptempo club anthem James Brown.

“James Brown was an inspirational activist throughout his career. Using his platform to fight and raise awareness around the issues regarding oppression of black people. This song, a nod to him, is my humble way of doing the same” says Corei.

Co-Written with long time collaborator & hitmaker DaVinChe, "this one is catchy as f!@K"
