Corei Shy, born in East London, the eldest of 8 kids, started writing and performing music at the age of 6, co-opting his cousins into joining imaginary boybands and taking control of his turntables to entertain the family. As a quiet and introverted kid performing wasn’t his forte and after a particularly severe bout of stage fright Corei turned to production as a more comfortable release for his talents. Over time Corei's confidence rose and he worked his way up from floor staff to find himself in the DJ booth with a residency at London’s Tottenham Court Road nightspot, Club 55.
Corei’s reputation developed further after winning a remix competition hosted by DJ Target on 1Xtra. This led to him producing a remix for Grammy award winner Bridget Kelly and further remix work for girl group Stooshe.
He was soon producing tracks for Don Major and DJ NType’s Whytelabel imprint. It was around this time that his relationship with record producer, writer and pioneer DaVinChe started to really develop. Soon a deal was on the table which saw Corei signing to DaVinChe’s nascent QAPLA label.
